ORPHANS & KINGDOMS

ONE NIGHT. ONE HOUSE. ONE ISLAND.

Orphans & Kingdoms is the multiple award-winning feature film debut from New Zealand filmmakers Paolo Rotondo (Writer/Director) and Fraser Brown (Producer.) A powerful drama that bravely explores the delicate relationships between children and parents, shot entirely on the stunning Waiheke Island, on a micro-budget.

Kenae (Hignett-Morgan), Tibs (Harris) and Jesse (Pickery) are three homeless teens on the run on Waiheke who, after implausibly escaping from a bag-snatching, break into a flash but unoccupied house and start to party.

The unexpected arrival of the architect owner Jeremy (Moy) might seem to signal that it's game over. But he's carrying some pretty heavy baggage and the stakes get rather higher rather quickly.

NZ Herald 3 1/2 Stars "The script, which Rotondo wrote, shows meticulous and clever plotting as the balance of power shifts minute-by-minute: he's smart enough to let things unroll slowly helped in good part by his brother Giovanni's excellent score and not to pack it with incident or dialogue"

Stuff/ Fairfax 4 Stars "The fast pacing and variety in the camerawork keeps this chamber piece lively, relying on the strong central performances and a mostly bang-on script to deliver devastating revelations and credible reactions."

Stuff (Graeme Tuckett) 4 Stars "In Orphans and Kingdoms we have another New Zealand-made film on our screens that also deserves and will reward an audience. Hunt it out and have a look. You'll be glad you did."
