A beautifully crafted documentary about the traditional ways of growing and storing kūmara. Produced by Whāingaroa's own Te Mauri Tau, it covers the path of the kūmara from seed to bed to the storage pit. In Te Reo Māori with English subtitles. (40min)

The lives of two strangers are changed forever when they cross paths on the surfing adventure of a lifetime, discovering love, downshifting and four Chilean horses.
Winner Byron Bay International Film Festival: Best Documentary
 The Road to Patagonia is a stunning, intimate and unflinching series of love letters within a documentary – firstly a love between two people, and secondly between humanity and the Earth. We follow Matty Hannon on an incredible solo adventure, to surf the west coast of the Americas by motorbike, from the top of Alaska to the tip of Patagonia.
But deep in the wilderness - alone with the wolves and the bears – Matty’s plans unexpectedly fall to pieces. After losing everything, and on the cusp of quitting he meets the girl of his dreams, a permaculture farmer named Heather Hillier who throws caution to the wind and sells her urban-farm to buy a bike of her own. Together riding south, the duo meet with Zapatista rebels, Amazonian shamans and Mapuche leaders whose salient words crack the adventurers’ cultural veneer.
The theme of deep ecology underpins the entire film, visually communicated through exquisite cinematography and emotional verité sequences. Shot over 16 years, the result is an adventurous exposé on the more-than-human world, offering a physical and spiritual odyssey to better understand our place in Nature.

 A 1920s English seaside town bears witness to a farcical and occasionally sinister scandal in this riotous mystery comedy. Based on a stranger than fiction true story, WICKED LITTLE LETTERS follows two neighbours: deeply conservative local Edith Swan (Olivia Colman) and rowdy Irish migrant Rose Gooding (Jessie Buckley). When Edith and fellow residents begin to receive wicked letters full of unintentionally hilarious profanities, foul-mouthed Rose is charged with the crime. Karioi Quilts & Crafts - second Thursday of every month.
The Karioi Quilters have been making high quality, natural fibre, artistic quilts for many years. Primarily a patchwork and quilting group, the members meet to share knowledge and skills and enjoy creating in good company.
From 2023, we changed the name to Karioi Quilts and Crafts to open the group up to other crafters.
Members can work on their own projects ranging from quilts, sewing projects and you can even bring your knitting, as long as it’s not a messy craft anything goes. New members are always welcome to come along to work on their own projects and learn techniques from a group of very creative craftspeople.

Meetings are held at the Raglan Old School Arts Centre from 10am to 1pm (sometimes 3pm if the room is available) on the second Thursday of every month. 10 sessions per year from February to December. Subscription is $30 per year which goes towards room hire.

 Even the Lost is an indie folk band from Wellington. Inspired by folk, rock and pop from the nineties, their music is soaked in the sounds, vibes and rich carpets of the seventies. They mix electric and acoustic sounds to create a warm backdrop for their songs of love, loss, mistakes and misadventure. Even the Lost is a 50:50 band – half their songs are original. The rest come from the artists who inspired them, people like John Moreland, Joan Osborne, Anna Tivel, Antje Duvekot and The Grateful Dead.
Bob McNeill is one of New Zealand’s best known folk artists for his solo records and numerous collaborations. A guitarist, he is a prolific songwriter whose songs have been covered by artists in New Zealand, Scotland, Australia and the US. He is a three-times winner of Best Folk Album at the New Zealand Music Awards and has toured in North America, Australia, Ireland and the UK. The Dominion Post compared him to Jackson Browne, James Taylor and Dougie MacLean. New Zealand Musician compared his songwriting to Bruce Springsteen and Mark Knopfler.
Em Griffiths has a voice to woo the staunchest of hearts. Rich, soulful and tender, it will break you, and mend you again. From Whangārei, and classically trained, Em is also Even the Lost’s multi- instrumentalist, playing mandolin, keys and fiddle.
Rob Henderson is one of New Zealand’s best bass players. He has toured widely here and in Australia with a variety of acts. A wizard jazz bassist in constant demand in Wellington, he also plays with NZ’s bluegrass supergroup You, Me, Everybody.

Come and see what Karioi Quilters and Crafters have been busy creating! This exhibition promises to be full of colour, design and pattern - you don't need to be a quilter to admire the skills that have gone into creating these works of art.
In addition, the quilters have generously donated their time and skills to create 5 quilts using fabrics donated to the Old School from the estate of the late Mavora Hamilton - there will be a silent auction for these treasures, as well as gifts for sale.
You can meet Karioi Quilters and Crafters and learn more about their crafts on Thursday 8 August - keep an eye out for pop-up demos too, from spinning to Slow Stitching.
The exhibition wraps up on Thursday 15 August - join us at 6pm to celebrate the event and find out the results of the silent auction

The lives of two strangers are changed forever when they cross paths on the surfing adventure of a lifetime, discovering love, downshifting and four Chilean horses.

The Road to Patagonia is a stunning, intimate and unflinching series of love letters within a documentary – firstly a love between two people, and secondly between humanity and the Earth. We follow Matty Hannon on an incredible solo adventure, to surf the west coast of the Americas by motorbike, from the top of Alaska to the tip of Patagonia.
But deep in the wilderness - alone with the wolves and the bears – Matty’s plans unexpectedly fall to pieces. After losing everything, and on the cusp of quitting he meets the girl of his dreams, a permaculture farmer named Heather Hillier who throws caution to the wind and sells her urban-farm to buy a bike of her own. Together riding south, the duo meet with Zapatista rebels, Amazonian shamans and Mapuche leaders whose salient words crack the adventurers’ cultural veneer.
The theme of deep ecology underpins the entire film, visually communicated through exquisite cinematography and emotional verité sequences. Shot over 16 years, the result is an adventurous exposé on the more-than-human world, offering a physical and spiritual odyssey to better understand our place in Nature.
