Interactive Art Installation - Elisabeth Denis:

The conceptual and interactive art installation is mounted in the gallery space as an integrative part of Matariki celebrations here at the Old School.
Matariki is a time of recommencement and renewal. The themes are explored by dividing the gallery space into two sections, in order to invite people to reflect on what has been in the past year, and what is yet to come in the future.
In the first section, you can link up 7 stars while thinking of 7 things (people, places or moments) that were significant for you in this past year. Take your time, soak in the opportunity to reflect.
After, go through the tunnel in the middle of the room to physically transition to the future. Here, write  your wishes and desires for the upcoming year. Then hang your wishes for the stars to notice.
This installation was made mainly from recycled materials found at the Old School .
Magic can be found in the simplest of things if you allow your imagination to stretch a little further.

Matariki menu (fundraiser for Raglan Kindergarten)
    Mussel fritters large $10
Pumpkin or Seafood Chowder Bowl $10 / Mug $5 with fry bread or sour dough
Selection of cakes and slices $1

Come and join us at the Old School Arts Centre for a Matariki Solstice celebration, combining Maori and Celtic traditions to provide a number of ways to mark midwinter/Maori New Year with your family and friends. Music, roving performers and an interactive art installation will fill the whole building. Raglan Kindergarten will be selling hot and delicious pumpkin soup, seafood chowder, mussel fritters and fry-bread (and the bar will be open).

Throughout the evening you can mark the change of season and add to an art work in the gallery. Roving performers will provide entertainment for children (and children at heart) in the first half of the evening. In the second half of the evening there will be a ceilidh upstairs, so bring your dancing shoes! If you’ve never done ceilidh dancing before – the caller will lead you through it, the band are old hands  (and any occasional chaos is part of the fun!)
