  • Nerikomi Hand-building with Clay for Adults

Category: Workshops Nerikomi Hand-building with Clay for Adults

    June 11, 2024

An exciting new workshop led by local ceramics artist Clarissa Machado. Nerikomi is a technique of layering coloured clays to create stunning effects in the finished pieces. Clarissa will teach the class how to make 2 nerikomi blocks from 3 natural colours of clay – one featuring a random pattern and one a planned pattern. Use these blocks to hand-build small pieces using moulds and learn to create a beautiful finish. This is a handbuilding class, however the techniques presented can also be used to create blocks for wheelwork. No experience necessary, suitable for beginning or intermediate clay artists.

Membership if applicable, clay and bisque firing included, glaze firing charged separately.

    $160 RCAC + Clay members, $180 RCAC members, $200 non-members

Class limited to 8 max, book online here

Category: Movies Movie- THE MOON IS UPSIDE DOWN (5.00pm)

    June 15, 2024

Loren Taylor’s darkly comic debut feature THE MOON IS UPSIDE DOWN was awarded Best First Feature at the closing ceremony of the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival this weekend after sell-out screenings at the highly regarded A-List festival in Estonia.

STUFF/ WAIKATO TIMES Graeme Tuckett 4/5 stars "This is a literate, clever and blackly funny gem. It won't be for everyone, but I think if you like The Moon is Upside Down at all, you'll probably love it. Bravo."

In this New Zealand black comedy, three women - a duped mail-order bride, a numbed anaesthetist determined to have a romantic weekend, and an empty nester on an unexpected mission of mercy - each navigates her way through an unfamiliar landscape and the contours of the human heart.

    June 15, 2024

FIRST HE CHANGED MUSIC. THEN HE CHANGED THE WORLD.

Graeme Tuckett Waikato Times/ Stuff 4/5 Stars "A mostly very watchable and enjoyable ride. There's a good handful of set-pieces here – the jam session that led to the writing of the title track of Exodus is a standout, a visit to a pub in London where The Clash are playing is another."
