Eva's Room, Raglan Old School Arts Centre,
    5 Stewart St, Raglan
    Thurs May 9, 7.30, doors 7pm
    Door sales $20

A renowned musical storyteller at ease with his instrument and his audience, Mike Harding’s mission for the last forty years has been to locate and perform the folk and popular songs of New Zealand’s past and present, from our colonial and folk roots to the Kiwi music of today.

‘The Ekatahuna Kid’ tour celebrates the songs and Mike’s own classic Kiwi upbringing. Born 1952 in the Eketahuna Maternity Hospital, later to be an old folks’ home (finally a goat paddock). Named ‘Michael’ by his parents, ‘Mum’ & ‘Dad’. Growing up in a small-town way; rugby at the domain, swimming in the baths and the river. At high school Gilbert & Sullivan, at home Barry Crump. Friday night shopping trips to Masterton. Shearing gangs, possum traps, country roads and country pubs.

Our popular Live & Local featuring local performers continues...

Live & Local will be celebrating NZ Music Month with local musicians playing original songs and classic Kiwi covers.

Musketeer is a live looping project by Sam M, a songwriter and electric guitarist who’s made his home in Whaingaroa for the last half decade. This is the ‘coming out’ set for this project and will feature a selection of upbeat, rocky, groovy, polyrhythmic tracks.

Long time Raglan resident & blues/country/rock maestro Dave Maybee is looking forward to playing a set of his originals, penned over a lifetime of recording & musical performance. Stylistically - a little bit of this and a little bit of that, played on a selection of instruments.

    .

    The Blister Sisters

The Blister Sisters will round out the evening with a bunch of (mostly) new Kiwi covers, played in their usual irreverent style. Never mind the songs harmed in the making of this set – it’s all about the outfits!

Live & Local presented by Raglan Old School Arts Centre is made possible with the support of Waikato District Creative Communities, Raglan Light & Sound and Mark Frost (Bayleys Real Estate)

APRIL LIVE & LOCAL Another great mix of Raglan acts, with first time solo appearances from Fred’Mo Limbert and Brian Wilson, plus a new collaboration from Ngaronoa Renata.Ngaronoa Renata's set is titled “Tumanako: Hope”. A combination of pūrakau & oro (story-telling and sound), the set features pūrakau and poetry accompanied with taonga pūoro and waiata. You may have seen Fredmo (Freddy Limbert) behind the drums or perhaps on double bass Having performed with numerous artists and bands, including on international tours, Freddy has accumulated his own unique approach to music. For this rare solo set, Freddy says he will be “Plucking some stringed instruments and singing some songs from his travels”.Brian Wilson makes his first solo Live & Local appearance, having performed several times with ukulele group The Ragtimers and backing other acts. Self-described as an aging hippy, Brian says he’ll be playing “An eclectic range of songs, some you may have heard before, but you still may not recognise them!”Live & Local, Fri April 12, Raglan Old School Arts Centre7.30pm, doors open 7pmKoha entryProudly supported by Waikato District Creative Communities, Raglan Light & Sound, Mark Frost – Bayley’s Real Estate See MoreSee Less

Thoroughly entrancing set from Greta O'Leary and Hannah Morrell at last Friday's Live & Local. We also had Matt Kambic's singer-songwriter tales and Vicki Greetis bringing the noise with alt rock/dirty blues/punk originals. Bet you're going to be hearing her "I Don't Like Reggae" on Raglan Radio soon! And hopefully one I think may have been called "Bogan Beaches" (?). See MoreSee Less
