GHOSTLIGHT: A FILM ABOUT FAMILY, ART, HUMOR & HEALING

Karioi Quilts & Crafts - second Thursday of every month.
The Karioi Quilters have been making high quality, natural fibre, artistic quilts for many years. Primarily a patchwork and quilting group, the members meet to share knowledge and skills and enjoy creating in good company.
From 2023, we changed the name to Karioi Quilts and Crafts to open the group up to other crafters.
Members can work on their own projects ranging from quilts, sewing projects and you can even bring your knitting, as long as it’s not a messy craft anything goes. New members are always welcome to come along to work on their own projects and learn techniques from a group of very creative craftspeople.

Meetings are held at the Raglan Old School Arts Centre from 10am to 1pm (sometimes 3pm if the room is available) on the second Thursday of every month. 10 sessions per year from February to December. Subscription is $30 per year which goes towards room hire.

 The Road to Patagonia is a stunning, intimate and unflinching series of love letters within a documentary – firstly a love between two people, and secondly between humanity and the Earth. We follow Matty Hannon on an incredible solo adventure, to surf the west coast of the Americas by motorbike, from the top of Alaska to the tip of Patagonia.
But deep in the wilderness - alone with the wolves and the bears – Matty’s plans unexpectedly fall to pieces. After losing everything, and on the cusp of quitting he meets the girl of his dreams, a permaculture farmer named Heather Hillier who throws caution to the wind and sells her urban-farm to buy a bike of her own. Together riding south, the duo meet with Zapatista rebels, Amazonian shamans and Mapuche leaders whose salient words crack the adventurers’ cultural veneer.
The theme of deep ecology underpins the entire film, visually communicated through exquisite cinematography and emotional verité sequences. For Tamariki – a 6-week clay workshop for 5-12 yo, tutored by Belinda Thomas (Mondays) and Megan Hockly (Thursdays). The theme this term is Water – students will sculpt, learn hand-building techniques and the processes involved in taking raw clay through to a finished glazed piece. There’s something instantly captivating about the music of nineteen-year-old Beth Torrance. She skilfully simmers our most deep and untameable feelings down to their purest form, offering them to the world as songs that are poetic, potent, and true.
Beth is celebrating the release of her debut EP, Tiny Flowers (via Particle Recordings), with a tour of Te Ika-a-Māui. She’ll kick off in her hometown of Tāmaki Makaurau before heading down to Raglan, Thames, and finishing in Pōneke.

There is a lot of story to tell, in the events that led to the fall of Ōrākau, and Ka Whawhai Tonu covers a lot of ground, but still finds time for some of the more bonkers true-to-life details that transpired.

 Set in New Zealand (Aotearoa in Māori) in 1864, Ka Whawhai Tonu tells the story of a pivotal battle in the country’s first land wars, a battle fought with impossible odds between Māori and the colonial forces. This heroic conflict is told through the eyes of two young teenagers forced to take control of their own destiny amidst the chaos of the battle and their escape.
