THE CARER

This feel-good comedy-drama about the unlikely relationship between a cantankerous actor (British acting royalty Brian Cox) and his Hungarian care-giver (newcomer Coco König).

Stanka is an aspiring Hungarian actress who has one burning desire: to make it on the English stage. Legendary actor Sir Michael Gifford is suffering from an incurable disease, and has one desire: to die. When Stanka becomes his carer, they both try to find a way to help each other.

Otago Daily Times 4 Stars “Where The Carer really becomes compelling is when Sir Michael starts to use Shakespeare to express his own feelings.”

Stuff/ Fairfax 4 1/2 Stars "Many critics have given Cox's acting all the credit for the excellence of the film, but for me Konig with her endearing continental accent deserves equal credit. She must cleverly fend off rages and volleys of eff bombs from Sir Michael in the rooms of his English estate. The Carer and its script are of such quality a second viewing would be just as rib-tickling."
