IRIS pairs legendary documentarian Albert Maysles (GREY GARDENS, GIMME SHELTER) with Iris Apfel, the quick-witted, flamboyantly dressed 93-year-old New York style icon and muse. More than just a fashion film, it is a story about creativity, design and how her soaring free spirit continues to inspire. IRIS portrays a woman whose enthusiasm for fashion, art and people are life's sustenance and reminds us that dressing, and indeed life, is nothing but an experiment.
Forget "The Devil Wears Prada" and "September Issue", this is the story of a woman that lives fully and artfully. She is in tune and educated on trends in fashion, art and the history that stimulates and influences them. Her manner of presenting herself to the world is a celebration of being alive and living in the world for all it's worth. See it, get some tips, ideas and encouragement on emancipating yourself and living to your fullest!
Stuff (Graeme Tuckett) - 4 Stars "Even if you wouldn't know a Hermes scarf from a hole in the ground, Iris isn't a bad way at all to remember Maysles work. Very recommended."
NZ Herald - 3 Stars "Charming if occasionally too-reverential portrait of New York identity and self-described "geriatric starlet" Iris Apfel."
