Engraved Bricks

Build the Raglan Community Arts Council’s new creative space – brick by brick

Raglan’s new creative space behind the Old School is standing proud, but empty, as the Raglan Community Arts Council (RCAC) pushes to find the final funds needed to complete the building.

The community room on the first floor is waiting for wallboard, paint and lights

The versatile building off Stewart Street has been planned to meet the community’s needs. It will replace the old Clay Shed and Lions Club Shed and create an additional multi-functional space that will cater for meetings, drama, theatre, music, and physical art forms such as ballet and tai chi.

The marathon fund raiser is into its sixth year and the RCAC is now offering all residents the opportunity to donate toward the final building costs by buying a brick.

Chair of the RCAC, Rodger Gallagher, says, the estimated cost of the creative space is $488,000.

“Thanks to a lot of hard work by volunteers, amazing support from our Raglan Whaingaroa community, and donations from several community funders we have been able to get the building to a watertight, but empty, stage. We now need to find the final funds to complete the project.”

The Brick-by-Brick project offers Raglanites the chance to buy a brick personalised with their name.

Example of how engraved bricks are used in paving

The bricks will be used in the paving and landscape design around the new building.

Many in the community have offered services free or at a reduced rate to get the building started. Others have painted tiles, bought raffle tickets, and eaten soup at Souper nights..

The Brick-by-Brick campaign is an opportunity for you, your family, or business to be a solid part of this wonderful new facility which will benefit the entire community.

Rodger says the RCAC is “almost there” and, with the community’s help, can bring the project to completion.

“The RCAC has reserved 300 bricks for engraved names. Bricks are available now for a donation of $300. A charitable donation receipt will be issued for tax rebate use.” For businesses, the cost can be a marketing expense. Sponsorship options from $300 plus GST are available.
